As revealed by some recently released concept art, Kraven the Hunter was originally intended to have a scene that would have connected the film to the Venom movies.
Kraven the Hunter, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the titular role, opened in theatres in December 2024 but mostly garnered negative reviews and was a box office dud. As such, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe now waits in limbo, with the company appearing to put a hold on producing any more solo movies based on the Marvel characters that they have rights to beyond Spider-Man. If that is the case, fans may never find out fully what kind of further connection Sony had in store for the characters.
Venom 3’s symbiote planet appears in Kraven’s canceled concept art sequence
Concept artist Jules Darriulat took to Instagram on Saturday to share concept art featuring a Venom-esque symbiote from a canceled scene in Kraven the Hunter.
The said post saw a black symbiote, not necessarily Venom, lying on the ground in the backdrop of a grim and cloudy environment. Darriulat explained the art in the caption, stating, “Here’s an environment shot done for a canceled sequence from Kraven the Hunter. It was a lot of fun working on this sequence with the Framestone’s art department.”
While Darriulat’s art does not confirm Venom’s inclusion in Kraven the Hunter, it does hint that a crossover between the two Spider-Man villains was considered at one point for the film. Notably, Venom: The Last Dance introduced fans to the villainous Knull, with the intention of exploring his story in later films. Therefore, the canceled symbiote sequence could have built upon the symbiote God’s arc.
Nevertheless, as far as fans know, the scene never progressed to the filming stage and only exists in the form of concept art. With the future of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe currently shrouded in uncertainty, it is yet to be seen if Venom and Kraven the Hunter will share the big screen anytime soon.
